Generous Donation Enables Purchase of New Drone

A generous donation of £4,500 from the Ray Wind Fund has covered more than half of the cost and enabled TCSR to purchase a new state-of-the-art drone just a couple of weeks after they first became available in the UK.

The new drone, a DJI M4TD is very highly specified and designed with emergency service use a primary role. It has high definition optical cameras with low light capabilities and 112 times zoom capacity, an infra red thermal imaging camera capable of 'seeing' at night or through smoke, a laser range finder showing the distance to an object and also AI functions which will recognise and identify any human within the downlinked real time images. These, along with a whole host of other functions makes this drone a very capable tool in the search for missing persons.

As the use of drones becomes more commonplace with search and recue organisations, it is important that TCSR's research remains relevant by utilising the latest technology in our ongoing work looking at the most effective and efficient techniques to employ when using drones in the search for missing persons.
